Martin established Tritonia Scientific Ltd. in 2018 and is the current Managing Director. He gained a BSc in Zoology/Marine Zoology in 1984 and a PhD in animal physiology in 1987. He was previously the Head of the UK National Facility for Scientific Diving and has been diving for over 40 years holding several professional diving qualifications. Martin is a member and past chair of the European Scientific Diving Panel, a member of the UK HSE Diving Industry Committee, a member of the UK Scientific Diving Supervisory Committee, a member of the Society for Underwater Technology’s Diving and Manned Submersibles Committee, an editorial board member for the journal Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine, and is the editor of the journal Underwater Technology. He has published nearly 100 peer-reviewed articles and almost 300 proceedings papers, edited works, abstracts and research reports. He is an accredited member of the Academy of Experts.
Jane is co-founder and co-owner of Tritonia Scientific Ltd. She is an experienced Company Secretary with a demonstrated history of working in the recreational facilities and scientific industry. Skilled in non-profit organisations, event management, environmental education, marine biology, and fundraising. Jane is a strong administrative professional; she graduated from the University of Sheffield and UCNW Bangor with a BSc (Hons.) in Zoology and a MSc in Marine Biology.
Hugh is a Diving Technician at Tritonia Scientific. He graduated from Bangor University with a joint honours degree in Marine Biology and Oceanography in 1996. Hugh has previously worked for the University Marine Biological Station, Millport and the British Antarctic Survey and as a Fishfarmer, Shellfish and Fishfarm Diver before starting work for the UK National Facility for Scientific Diving in 2002. Hugh is a Diving Technician and Recompression Supervisor. Hugh services and maintains the pool of diving equipment, operates the companies underwater ROVs and UAVs (drones) and has many years’ experience as a commercially endorsed Skipper. Hugh instructs on Tritonia Scientific’s HSE SCUBA, Scientific Diving and RYA Courses.
Elaine is a Diving Technician and Recompression Supervisor at Tritonia Scientific. She graduated from the University of Malta with a BA (Hons) in Mediterranean Archaeology in 2002 and a MA (research) in 2006. Elaine worked as a freelance maritime archaeologist in Malta and participated on underwater and terrestrial excavations in Malta, Algeria and France before joining the NERC National Facility for Scientific Diving in 2008. During her diving career, Elaine has supported scientific research in temperate, warm water and polar environments and has conducted research into dive computers. Elaine is also a Research Assistant at the University of York where she conducts participatory research with maritime societies on heritage, sustainability and Ecosystem Services as part of the EU Pericles project and for her PhD.
Andy is a post-doctoral research associate at Tritonia Scientific. He gained a BSc (Hons) in Marine Biotechnology in 2006 and a PhD in Marine Biogeochemistry in 2012. Andy previously worked at University Marine Station, Millport and the UK National Facility for Scientific Diving, Oban, as a diving technician and researcher for five years before starting work with Tritonia Scientific in 2018. Andy researches, develops and applies 3D Structure from Motion photogrammetry for Tritonia Scientific and is a certified HSE Pt IV diver with 3000+ work dives in temperate and remote tropical environments. Andy also holds a Remote Pilot Qualification and is responsible for Tritonia Scientific’s unmanned aircraft systems. He is one of five chamber supervisors at the hyperbaric recompression facility and a diving officer for the Bertarelli Programme in Marine Science.
Kathryn is a Scientific Researcher at Tritonia Scientific. She graduated from Cardiff University with a BSc (Hons) in Marine Geography in 2015. She gained an MSc in Ecosystem-based Management of Marine Systems from St Andrews University in 2018. Kathryn previously undertook various Research Assistant positions before starting work with Tritonia Scientific in 2019. She coordinated fisheries research on Lipsi in Greece and undertook shark research on Bimini in the Bahamas and throughout the Philippines following her graduation. Kathryn is researching and developing the 3D photogrammetric modelling capabilities for Tritonia Scientific and is a certified HSE Pt IV diver and a member of the hyperbaric recompression chamber team.
Jonathan joined Tritonia Scientific. in April 2019 as Project Manager. Before starting at Tritonia Scientific, he gained a BSc (Hons) in Marine Biology and Oceanography from Bangor University, and worked in Aquaculture as an Environmental Scientist for three and a half years. He has been diving for nearly 15 years and holds commercial qualifications in diving and boat skippering. Previously, Jonathan has worked as a research assistant for scientists at universities in Wales and Australia, and from 2009 to 2011 he worked part time as a Fisheries Assistant for an independent oyster producer on the west coast of Scotland. In 2011, Jonathan won the Scottish Association for Marine Science award for Outstanding Achievement in Science.
Chris is the Chamber Manager at Tritonia Scientific. He joined in September 2018 after completing 32 years in the Royal Navy, with a demonstrated history as a proficient hands-on Diver, Supervisor, Manager and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Officer. Chris worked on the most sophisticated diving systems that the RN has to offer and he still works part-time with the RN Reserves employed as a Diving Supervisor on the NATO Submarine Rescue System.
Kate is a supervisor for Tritonia Scientific in their southern branch in the South West of England, having joined the team in 2021. She earned a BSc in Aquatic and Fisheries Sciences at the University of Washington in 2010 where she learned scientific diving methodology before undertaking further studies focusing on cuttlefish at the Université de Rennes. Her commercial dive training was completed in Tasmania in 2013 and, shortly after, she joined a 6-month expedition with the Australian Antarctic Division at Casey Station as dive/science support. Bitten by the Antarctic bug, she went on to spend two 18-month periods working for the British Antarctic Survey as the Field Diving Officer at the Rothera Research Station.
Chris joined Tritonia Scientific in 2021 and is one of the diving supervisors for the company’s southern branch in the South West of England. He obtained his HSE Pt IV qualification in the early 2000s while studying Marine Biology at Plymouth University. Chris has been diving for over 20 years, and been self-employed for approximately 10 years, offering scientific diving services (as a diver) and fieldwork support for marine ecology projects across the UK and Ireland.
Pamela is undertaking a graduate placement as a Postgraduate Research Assistant for Tritonia Scientific. She earned a BSc (Hons) in Marine Science with Arctic Studies through the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) in 2021. During her studies, she gained field experience in the high Arctic, where she spent a semester conducting fieldwork and participated in a scientific cruise around Svalbard. She has gained experience in laboratory techniques and used programming tools for the analysis and interpretation of data from underwater robotics. Pamela has been a recreational SCUBA diver for 15 years and a professional instructor for 12 years. Prior her studies, she worked as a dive instructor in Honduras, Thailand, and Indonesia.
Matthew is a Systems Development and Integration Manager at Tritonia Scientific. He gained a BSc (Hons) in Physics in 2007 followed by a MSc in Physical Oceanography in 2008 and a PhD in the robotic observation of ocean turbulence and mixing in 2015. Matthew previously worked at the Scottish Association for Marine Science as a researcher for 6 years before starting work with Tritonia Scientific in 2021. Matthew has extensive experience developing and delivering the UK's most comprehensive robotic ocean ecosystem monitoring network. Matthew now develops and applies cutting-edge navigation and location systems of centimeter-scale accuracy, and is developing Tritonia Scientific's photogrammetry machine learning capabilities.
Karl is undertaking a graduate placement as a Postgraduate Research Assistant for Tritonia Scientific. He graduated from Edinburgh Napier University with a BSc (Hons) in Marine and Freshwater Biology in 2019. He gained an MSc in Climate Change: Managing the Marine Environment from Heriot-Watt University (Edinburgh) in 2020. During his Masters he researched deep-sea communities found at hydrothermally active regions on the East Pacific Rise, gaining experience in deep-sea taxonomy, seafloor image analysis, mapping software and multivariate statistical analysis. Karl began diving whilst undertaking a research internship on Samos in Greece, where he also lead surveys for an artificial reef project.
